Family Child Care Option

The Economic Opportunity Commission of San Luis Obispo County administers the Family Child Care model, which is a very unique program model that complements the center-based model.

Contracted family day care homes are used to provide services for children age 0-2. This particular model allows flexibility to provide infant care in isolated areas or where a center may not be equipped to handle the youngest children. The Head Start Performance Standards provide the guidance for the administration of this program model. The family childcare providers are monitored and receive support and training from the MSHS Specialists.

Currently, the MSHS program serves 232 children using the Family Child Care option.
